YCMOU (Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University)

Yashwantrao Chavan Open University (YCMOU) came into being in July 1989 by an act promulgated by the Maharashtra State Legislature. It is the 5th Open University of India. Situated in Nasik, it has jurisdiction over the whole of Maharashtra. YCMOU carries on its functions through 8 regional centers located in cities like Amravati, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nanded, Nasik and Pune. It also has about 1400 study centers all over the state.

Around 200 different courses are offered in this institute in three languages namely English, Hindi and Marathi. There are 4 lac registered students and every year about 1 lac students enroll for pursuing higher studies. Keeping with the trends of open universities, this university is also flexible with regards to eligibility and admission, but strict rules are follower regarding examinations.
